Shawan Rice is a New Orleans based vocalist, songwriter, and storyteller whose work centers on original compositions and reinterpretations of influential repertoire. She performs regularly across the city with a rotating lineup of highly regarded musicians, including Donald Ramsey and Chris Senac on bass, Terrence Houston and Rodney Weber on drums, among a wide network of collaborators within the New Orleans music community. Touring for over a decade throughout the United States and internationally, Rice has appeared on major stages including the Congo Square stage at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Switzerlands Jazz Ascona Festival. Zita is a four piece trombone-fronted rock band that fuses New Orleans soul, funk, and blues in their sound. Founded on their shared love for rock & roll music the days of their youth, and an affinity for the great music history of New Orleans, their sound resides uniquely between these two worlds. In 2021, Zita's debut album Hardly Alive won Best Rock Album at New Orleans's 2021-22 Best of the Beat Awards. Zita has been playing in New Orleans and the southeast US for 3 years, with their first headlining show at Tipitina’s in late 2022, then exploding onto the Nola festival circuit in 2023 & 2024.
